Vic Solomons Transport Collection

This collection was acquired from photographer and collector Vic Solomons in 2021. It comprises over 4500 images of trams and other forms of public transport in Sydney. taken between the years 1902 and 2009. The focus of the collection is on the late 1950's and early 1960's when Sydney's tram routes gradually ceased operation.

The collection contains images of trams and related services along many of Sydney’s former tram routes, with a particular focus on the Sydney CBD and eastern suburbs routes. 

Whilst most images in this collection were taken by Vic Solomons himself, it also includes images by John Alfred, Norm Boxall, Doug Greenwald, Peter Lambert, Fred Saxon, Ted Skiller, Noel Thorpe, Greg Travers, and Warwick Upton. The collection was generously scanned and indexed in its entirety by John Ward.

Most of the images in this collection are available to view and download via the City Archives catalogue. However, this collection also contains many additional images of trams and transport depots as well as images of the establishment and operation of the Sydney Tramway Museum.
