Graeme Andrews Working Harbour Collection

This collection was acquired from Graeme Andrews in 2012 and consists of over 10,000 images.

Andrews took photographs of Sydney Harbour from 1955 to 1993 during a long career in maritime related occupations. He also acquired materials, dating from as early as the mid 19th century, which form part of this collection.

Key themes include ships and boats, and harbour shorelines and the buildings and activities along the harbour edge. Coverage is from the 1850s to the 1990s, although the bulk of the images are from the 1930s onwards. The acquisition of this collection has provided the City Archives with one of the most significant collection of working harbour images still in private hands.

Major contributors to the collection include Graeme Keith Andrews (born 1938), Ronald Montgomery (1928- 2007), Frederick Charles Saxon (1917 - 2004), John Gunter (1940 - 2020), Eric Stevens (born 1911), Ron Thiele (born 1926), Tom Minto (1907 - 2001) and Harry Salter (born 1918).
